Farmers and shepherds in the region are forced to accumulate this waste in warehouses due to the fact that the European Commision considers this rough, flame resistant wool a Category 3 animal byproduct, making it ilegal to dispose of it in the land as compost. To tackle this waste we propose a regenerative solution by processing it into small pellet fertilisers to nurture the soil these sheep already feed from. Open to be downloaded in OpenDesk, an online marketplace that hosts independently designed furniture, the chair is available to anyone with access to a CNC Milling machine. The design is inspired by the  monarch butterfly, aiming to spark curiosity in young children and encourage them to appreciate the beauty of nature. The chair is also highly interactive and playful, featuring pieces with hooks that can be attached to it or used independently as a puzzle. The result is an optimisation of the space in a single wood board, using the minimum amount of material possible by concentrating on the structural logics of butterfly wings. Composting is a popular option for fallen leaves, as it allows them to break down naturally and be turned into nutrient-rich soil that can be used for regenerating nature, but it is a practice that is only slowly developing in cities. The production of Leaf Skin looks at another opportunity for regenerative design in both small and large scale production.Depending on the specific city and its waste management policies, fallen leaves may be collected by city workers and taken to a composting facility where they are turned into nutrient-rich soil that can be used in public parks and gardens. In other cases, leaves may be collected and sent to a landfill or incinerator for disposal. Leaf Skin sees an opportunity to enhance the regenerative cycle of nature instead of introducing it in the human process of "take, make and dispose" and proposes an alternative to non degradable plastics and their damage.
